A Spirited Artist for Spirited Expression

The Northern Californian artist is surrounded by the diversity in landscape, flora, cultures, and geography that the San Francisco bay area provides. Its inspiration along years of artistic study and perfecting the methods of her art is clearly demonstrated in the range and style of jewelry Cheryl Lois Walker creates. “Every design starts with a compulsion to create something, which I hold at bay with contemplation noticing where I am at the moment and thinking about how much I value what I am doing,” Cheryl says. “More often than not, I find myself driven to create something perfect, impossible I know, but there it is. In the end, I have an emotional connection to everything I design and make.”

Cheryl’s work is based in polymer clay which she combines with other media such as beads, fabric, and precious metals. The resulting art is engaging, sometimes surprising, and always spirited.

Having taken art classes from an early age Cheryl created dolls and seasonal ornaments in the 1970s and was selling them to 30 to 50 boutiques in the bay area. At the end of the 1990s she began working with polymer clay. Being mostly isolated from the recognized artists in the medium, Cheryl is self-taught and relied on books to build basic skills. Today she is a master with the clay. She admires and is inspired by the works of leading polymer clay and ceramic artists.

Cheryl enjoys traveling and is always looking with an eye towards art jewelry.

Working from her home in the east bay hills, Cheryl enjoys a view of the San Francisco bay from her studio. Her life always makes room for her family and tending her garden. She likes to get out to feed wild birds and care for injured and lost critters in the open spaces near her home.
